Join the club. Today is the bday of 2 of my JC friends, YE and Tong Teck. Opening this 'forum' for all the '79-ers to post thoughts of what it means to be 27 for you? :)
Or if you're past that era.. what DID it mean for u to be 27 :)
Not being as clueless as I was at 17. Finally learning to appreciate growing older cos with every big life lesson learned, and every little bit of wisdom gained, I feel like I've glimpsed a little more into the gift that God bestowed on me 28 years ago. No kidding, it was in the course of this past year that I made the realization that growing older is incidental to growing in experience. And experience can be processed, if I am willing, to growth in love, hope, faith, and wisdom. Here's to being 27! (I only have a little of it left!)
haha i forgot to put mine. -Being 27 means less wedding dinners to attend (As compared to 24 - 26 yo), - Less people think i look older than my age (coz now i actually look like im 27), - spending more on facial products (Ah.. those days of fair, bouncy, rosy cheeks with no need for sun block), - Thinking that the JC students now look like they should be in secondary school, getting shocked that the teachers in your alma mater actually look like your batch.. when teachers used to look much older! - Being abit more gracious to those who are over 30, because u noe one day, it'll be your turn. - Finding urself reminiscing about old, childhood games and toys. - Being shocked when you're humming ur fav chinese pop song n thinking ur still cool and have ur 16 yo sister say 'what era was that song played in??'. - Have pp ask u when u'll get married (i mean, who doesn't get that once ur friends start getting married). - m no longer the youngest one in a group :(
Ok... now for the more uplifting ones... Seeing your friends have their lil babies and guessing which parent he/she looks like! Buying gifts for them :) Meeting up with old friends and still acting like school girls once again. Having travelled to different parts of the world and met pp from at least 15 different nations. Living in 3 different nations outside of SG for extended periods of time. Pp saying that i lost weight from JC days (AHAHA). Discovering who i really am. Freedom from peer pressure. Freedom from unforgiveness.Learning what love is really about and how to love better. See younger ones grow and walk stronger than i ever did, in conviction and also in love. Have real friends that i can visit from all over the world! Knowing how to differentiate a crush from true love.. haha.. man, those puppy-love days! Discovering true friendship. Most of all, really really, falling deeper in love with Jesus!
I think when we get together (esp with Yinwei and Bea), the part of us that is forever 16 years old comes to the fore! Miss you girls... looking forward to next year. And hey, still got my wedding to attend ah! (*ahem* more than attend)
Wow, thanks for all the sharing ... Hmm, 27 for me means ... --> really enjoying the times when I hang out with friends from my era and reliving the good memories and the icons of our times (e.g. top 10 songs, pencil boxes with nifty buttons and parts, games we played, unique things like carrying milk boxes in buckets to class, brushing teeth in pri school by the drain, Singapore workout, Malaysia Cup glory days, iconic cartoons and TV shows from the 80s) --> really thinking about what it means to be married/a husband/a father and seeking God for His vision for my family and household --> having the chance to mentor and speak into the lives of younger ones and see them excel and surpass me when I was their age --> getting to chance to attend weddings and have reunions with friends and wondering aloud how the groom/bride changed so much since school days so that they could now marry ;-p --> being grateful for the seasons of life that God has brought me through and appreciating Him for what He is doing in this current season --> working more than studying --> having the chance to steward over more finances with a salary --> learning and living out a rship with God each day, with every day being sweeter than the day before (sounds familiar ;-p) --> reading the newspapers and understanding a lot more than I did years ago ... hehe --> marvelling at what God does over the years in shaping people, changing lives and situations
"getting to chance to attend weddings and have reunions with friends and wondering aloud how the groom/bride changed so much since school days so that they could now marry ;-p" -- AHAHAHA!! Man, i hope no one wonders THAT about me when my turn comes!!!
