I’m so inspired and encouraged after reading an article on Jeanne Mayo, one of the oldest but most amazing youth pastors and America’s most successful and respected youth pastor at the age of 55, married with 2 kids! God can surely use anyone to lead His people as long as we are willing and make ourselves available!
One sentence she made caught my attention:
“Youth was not made for pleasure, it was made for heroism.”
And dare we believe it?
I do! I believe that youth, not just the students that we minister to, but even ourselves (yes, we’re youths!), are meant to do great things, things that call for courage beyond our years!
I hope that in the process of this coming year in ministering to the students, all of us here will also come to discover the specific call to heroism that God has called us in our lives. We may not jump into a burning building to save lives or to excavate people out of collapsed building rubble, but I know that a hero defined is one who holds nobility of purpose, who has risked/ sacrificed his or her life for others. Each of us may have a different call this season of our lives, but whether the sacrifice is time, effort, finances, personal ambition, selfishness or love, it all leads to one purpose: to honor God above all and advance His kingdom, that we may bring more souls into a loving relationship with God. Whatever our specific call is, I hope that we can go on this journey together this year and also help and encourage one another to live out this call.
Her bottom line is this:
" Work your guts out, Pray your guts out, Love their guts out"
Wow. Thanks for this aawesome reminder and challenge!
