i miss certain conversations and jokes.Today was Amy and Jarrett's mini farewell as they go sailing ahead to South Africa, Cape Town for the 1.5 years with baby Evan! I will miss Amy's brand of humour. There are some things you don't realise u miss until u encounter it again.. or perhaps "miss" is not the right word, more like what u're "missing out" on?
Well again, another good friend of leaving.. though i say it with apprehension on my end coz i haven't been a really good friend to them since i came back and since their baby.. have been so caught up with doing what i do :(
Amanda just turned 17 a couple days back. Aline turns 21 this year. When amanda came to SG she was 13 yo and when i first met Aline she was
turning 17 yo.Got some time to spend with Aline when she back to get her A Level results but now she's gone back.. i realised that again, i've missed out on her animated sharing and humour! So good to have had that chance to chat w her but also missing that she's gone back
Youth in this age bracket grow up so quickly! sigh!
but yes, i am reminded that i need to savor the time i now have with Amanda.. soon she'll turn 21 as well.. O MIGOSH. and then mabbe she'll start dating, seeing a guy... and get married! WOW.
Then i'll miss her singing and bantering and her getting up early in the morning to go to school, sitting at her desk doing homework and baking her yoghurt cake.
Gosh. i should just stop here, im jumping ahead of myself.. and jst remind myself to savor those special moments. Remind myself.. to live this life not to work it out.
It has now dawned on me that farewells are not to specific people because they may return physically by your side again (as is the case with my friends that are coming back form overseas) but, farewells are to different seasons of life we'll go through and these seasons will never come back again just as we can't turn back time. I wish someone had told me about this part of growing up before! I didn't realise this was going to make such an impact on me.. mabbe because no one really believes that i'm really high 'S' profile deep within..haha.
So farewell again.. to seeing baby Evan grow up and turning 1 yo here in Singapore, to Amanda going to primary school life and to Aline in her school uniform (IJ and SAJC)...

ReplyDeleteIvy, being one who is in a ministry where I say a lot of "goodbyes," I can relate to your tender, if not poignant blog. Your "farewells are to different seasons of life," is eloquent - thank God we can look forward to that Day when all seasons are passed and there would just be glorious life with Him at the center and no more nights. .

Woah Ivy, you look a lot thinner in your uniform in this photo than you did in Sec school days. Have u lost weight again? Don't work too hard yah! (on the flip side, I think I've been eating too well here... my bridal gown designer gonna kill me if I can't fit into the gown for my first fitting...*LOL*)
