Repost of thought provoking blog by Ps Steve Murrell. One other life change that i can think of apart from those listed below that would cause young people to drop out of church, is also disappointments and tribulations in life/ God.
Unless our lives are deeply entrenched and rooted in the love of Christ, in understanding and in our hearts, all or any of these reasons and more will cause us to give up and walk away. Afterall, without the love of Christ, it is almost impossible to accept imperfections in ourselves and others AND commit to walking and building each other up through it all. Love always protects, always hopes, always trusts, always perseveres.
What are your answers to Q1 and Q2 below?

Top 10 Life Changes that Cause Young People to Drop Out of Church: Steve Murrell
Last Tuesday’s Top 10 blog listed reasons people quit church. This list is similar, but a bit different. Last week was about the reasons people quit church. This week's list is about the life change moments that help people quit.
Over 90% of drop outs happen during a life change transition. Many of the top 10 life change seasons that sparked the drop out seem less than life-altering. Some sound rather mundane. But, when a person's heart has already dropped out, almost any reason will do. (ivy's note: see my previous blog - He Came For My Heart)
Here they are - the top 10 life changes that cause young people to quit church:
10. Lost touch with my churchgoing friends
9. Family responsibilities preventing me from attending
8. Made life decision not accepted by the church
7. School responsibilities preventing me from attending
6. Spending more time with friends outside of church
5. Became too busy, but still wanted to attend
4. Moved too far away from church
3. Change in work schedule
2. Moved to college
1. Simply wanted a break from church

QUESTION #1: What life change experienced caused you to withdraw from church?
QUESTION #2: Why did you stay in church even through life change seasons?
I just read this on Pstr Steve's blog too... I think this might be good to bring up with JaM...
ReplyDeletem all for it!
ReplyDeletethis is nice ivy...
ReplyDeleteHmmm.. For Q1. No.7, 5, 3, and 1.
ReplyDeleteNo.7 & 1 happened in 04-06. Just wanted a break and focus on the studies
No.5 & 3 happened from 06-present, The Saf is an employer that has very bad scheduling..
As for Q2, I choose to stay because I believed our church is the best environment for me to grow spiritually and as a person. Although I have been with the church since 03, honestly, I havent grown much until recently when I decided to take action on the calls GOD has been sending
