My Dad

Today was one of those rare days (perhaps the 2nd or 3rd time in my entire life as a Christian??) that i did not go to sunday service, because i'd been sick the last couple of days and this morning, before i could get ready to go church anyway, my dad INSISTED that i go see a doctor.

So my dad sends me to the doc, waits with me in the waiting area before sending me to Amara to the church coz i had to pass some people some things, waited for me and then we go off to get lunch at Vivocity then home. In the midst of it all, I think I just really super appreciated my father. My father is not perfect, but in the area of selflessness towards the welfare towards his children, he cannot be faulted. He is always generous, always giving, always self-suffering for his children.

At the doctors

Doctor asks if i have been self medicating, which is a yes, but more the chinese herbal stuff, ginseng tea, and xi1 gua1 shuang1 tablets  (watermelon frost) and lotsa sleep.. because he is impressed that i actually have my voice and do not need to take antibiotics. So i relate to my dad this cool news and he suddenly remembers he bought some ginseng from beijing the last time and calls my maid right away to ask her to prepare ginseng tea for me when i get back. like, right away!

Next, he sends me to Amara hotel (which is far from our home btw) and waits for me, so i can drop off some gifts, then send me back.

At Vivocity

However, along the way, he just remembered there's this really great chicken (hong zhao mee swa) mee swa at vivocity and decides to go there for lunch. He asks to call my sis back home and ask her wat she'd like to eat too. haha i seldom see my dad so excited to eat at the food court, but he was. He ordered this chicken mee swa, and ate everything BUT the chicken?? im like??? haha he says he just likes the soup and mee swa. Then i told him there's food republic on the 3rd floor, and apparently, he does not know about it though its been there for the last 1 year! so i brought him there and he was quite thrilled by the variety of stalls there and his greatest find (and a new discovery for me too), was the heng hwa mee sua that was sold there! so he went and bought 2 packets.. so he could share it w pp at home.

Car Conversations

Apart from these small incidents that happened along the way, what i loved best was just our random conversations.. ranged from food variety, health value in ingredients, politics, corruption and governance.

Actually, my favourite time spent with my dad is really in the car. I love conversing with him as he drives and when he tells me fascinating stuff about the world and what he's doing. When in such conversations, i feel nothing like a 28-yo grad student, but i feel like a kid whose dad knows everything! haha. That's one thing i miss now that Gary has a car, we no longer take a ride from Dad to go to the office, hence, missing out on morning car conversations time.

My dad has helped me to catch a glimpse of the generosity and selflessness of God our Father. I've never had to worry about finances and provision, even when times were hard.. my dad never allowed us to worry.. and this has been consistent in all the 28 years of my life. As such, because of the example my father has set in my life, it's never been hard for me to trust God as my provider thus far. I just know that i will be taken care of, somehow as i do what i'm supposed to do.

Today was a good day. I feel better now health-wise and in the soul. I feel well again

"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!" - Matthew 7:9-11

  1. It's a blessing to have a father that reflect's the generosity and love of our Father in heaven! Happy for you dear, and envious! :)

Btw, is the ginseng tea u wrote about American ginseng? Cos the Chinese & Korean types of ginseng is heaty in nature and the American ginseng cooling in nature. Depending on what your illness is, don't mix them up hor!

  5. Great post. Love the reminder. We might not have the perfect parents, but we could always pick out their best qualities and magnify it, and voila! We have a glimpse of God the father.
