Have you ever done what you thought was right, but end up in a place you didn't expect to be? Have you tried to do what's best, but see results you didn't expect to see? I have, many, many times, perhaps for most of my life, always trying to do what i thought was right, and what i thought was best. Best, not just for me, but for the pp around me. But mabbe that was too much of me trying, and too little of me trusting in God.
So God brings you to a place, where you've done all you can, the best way you know how.. then u realise that you have no control over the results because He is the one in control. Only then you realise where u've been placing trust on.. in your diligence/doing right things that you think will bring profit or good endings, or in God who is the one that gives you the ability to produce wealth and accords us our righteousness. Let's not be weary in doing good but let's not forget the source that enables us to do good is also the one that determines the end of a matter.
A recent spate and series of events have caused me to start thinking to myself "God, am i asking of myself, more than what you're asking of me?" I love the words of wisdom found in Ecclesiastes 7:15-17" In this meaningless life of mine I have seen both of these:
a righteous man perishing in his righteousness,
and a wicked man living long in his wickedness.
16 Do not be overrighteous,
neither be overwise—
why destroy yourself?
17 Do not be overwicked,
and do not be a fool—
why die before your time?
18 It is good to grasp the one
and not let go of the other.
The man who fears God will avoid all extremes"
To those pp that have once lived in perfectionism.. Are you asking of yourself more than what God is asking of you? What is God asking of you today?
Better Than I - featured in "Joseph - King of Dreams"
David Campbell
I thought I did what's right
I thought I had the answers
I thought I chose the surest road
But that road brought me here
So I put up a fight
And told you how to help me
Now just when I have given up
The truth is coming clear
You know better than I
You know the way
I've let go the need to know why
For you know better than I
If this has been a test
I cannot see the reason
But maybe knowing I don't know
Is part of getting through
I try to do what's best
And faith has made it easy
To see the best thing I can do
Is put my trust in you
For You know better than I
You know the way
I've let go the need to know why
For you know better than I
I saw one cloud and thought it was a sky
I saw a bird and thought that I could follow
But it was you who taught that bird to fly
If I let you reach me will you teach me
For You know better than I
You know the way
I've let go the need to know why
I'll take what answers you supply
You know better than I
It reminds me of Ps Cathryn's ENLI class, of cause we can do this and that and so many things. But does God ask us to do so? If it isn't from God, we can't focus on the priority which God's asking us to do. So, waiting time for God's timing gets longer. But God is so great, He still bless us. One of the examples from the Bible is.... Ishmael & Isaac. God blessed Ishmael as well but Isaac was the chosen one. :) Thanks for sharing!!! It's a good point!!! :)

ReplyDeleteThat song caught my attention too when I watched that movie! And btw, interesting you posted it here, because I think the biblical Joseph is an excellent example of someone who trusts completely in God and is never distracted from serving God whatever his circumstance.
