I think i've never been so multicultural within a short span of ONE week.
In one week beginning 16th Dec, i've been to 4 cities, adapt to 4 different cultures and heard 6 different languages.. from Manila (tagalog and english), to Macau (cantonese), to Shanghai (Mandarin and Shanghainese) to Chongqing (chongqing dialect and mandarin and Singlish with my family! ehe)
slightly mindboggling.. but it's been interesting! actually its been surreal more than anything.. i feel like i can really go to any part of the world and its such a strange feeling to be walking on different streets in differnt parts of the world in such a short span of time.. i remind myself that i am singaporean, but yet, somehow also a global citizen.. afterall i only have one definite citizenship, which is the one in heaven and the rest of my time in the world is travelling.. and it really is beginning to feel like it!
It's been quite an awesome break so far .. (Though i did have to do some reading, but it made the trip better. Read: Every Nation in Our Generation by Rice Broocks!) mainly because of just being able to spend time with friends and family this time! my trip to SH has been the least touristy ever.. and i just dun feel like it somehow.. content to live like i would like in Manila or Singapore. As for being in CQ.. i got to be abit more touristy but only coz family is bringing us ard and that's a good time to spend with one another. The only thing of course, is really the cold. with temps ranging from -3 to 6 deg celsius, i remind myself again never to complain SG is too hot!
One thing though i must say is that all my traveling has also brought me to apprecaite having a home country and also to appreciate SG more.. but of course it has also opened my eyes to other things in other cultures that i realised is good too. I can just imagine how one day, our time in the new heaven and earth will be an amalgam of the redempted culture from every people group since there will be a representation of every ethno then.. imagine the sights and sounds! imagine the sheer amazement of the beauty in diversity that God has created!
well i guess that's all for now.. it's time to defrost under the covers of my 4th bed for this week! :)
me? i am content to live like i would like in Manila or Singapore :) merry christmas ate ivy!!
