Empty Handed

"Your grace has found me just as I am, Empty handed but alive in Your hands."

Singing the lyrics to Majesty last Sunday, staring at this stanza: empty handed but alive in your hands.

But doing so, I realised that this was not just my state when Christ first found me, but it is as I am now.

I am still empty handed before Him.

Everything i have "attained" from the time I have met Him – travel experiences, CELTA certification, mission trips, ministry involvement, SWM, LKY School of public policy masters course, whatever As, medals, praises, will all pass, all fade and I remain standing before my God, empty handed. The miracle is not that I stand before Him, it is that I am able to do so, alive and loved.

I can do nothing for a God that has everything. A God that has no need for me,  but wants me. A God that takes pleasure in me living for Him, as imperfectly as it may be. A God who has a holy heart, pursuing my ugly one, so that He can make mine like His.

Everyday, at the end of the day, I stand before Him, empty handed, alive and loved. And everything else, counts for nothing. It is the journey traversed with God and not the things done in the process, that gives life true meaning.

Lord, help me to stop trying to do things for You, and learn to do things with You. No more running in circles, running in the dark.

"Naked a man comes from his mother's womb, and as he comes, so he departs. He takes nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand."
